Spam Via Social Networking Sites Increases By 70 Precent

Spam and malware on social networking sites has risen by 70% according to a report from IT security and data protection firm Sophos. The report has found that criminals targeting social networking users have risen considerably over the year with 57% of users reporting that they have been spammed and 36% reporting that they have been sent malware. The UK has put the rest of Europe in the shade by being identified as Europe’s top online spenders. Research from the Centre of Retail Research working in conjunction price comparison site Kelkoo has found that the UK accounted for almost one third of the whole of Europe’s online sales in 2009 with an estimated spend of a staggering £38bn. Twitter Adds Local Trending Feature

Twitter has improved the relevancy of its trending topics by adding a new feature that allows you to see local trends. The new feature currently allows you to select geographic regions which include a handful of countries including the UK and Ireland and some major cities including London.
