Facebook To Allow Users To Share Current Location

Facebook is planning to release a new feature that allows users to share their current location with friends in their status updates. According to reports users will be able to ‘check-in’ to a range of different locations that will be included within their status updates.

Some of the locations that users are said to be able to check into include McDonalds which suggests that this new feature is going to compete directly with other social networks that use geo-targeting like Foursquare. Users will be able to tell people that they are at McDonalds giving the company exposure to that particular user’s friends.

There has not been any official announcement on when this gets released however reports have suggested that it will be ready later this month in the US. Interestingly Tech Crunch has found that the ‘check-in’ functionality has been added as it is in the JavaScript code on the to the touch.facebook.com site suggesting that is could be very soon.
