Google have added one of the most significant and useful features to its Webmaster Tools to date that finally allows you to see data on impressions and clicks for natural search!
The new feature resides in the top search queries report section on Webmaster Tools and displays information on the overall amount of impressions your site has received and the CTR as well as data on specific queries.
On top of this Google have also expanded data on the amount of queries your site receives and have included a chart which helps webmasters visualise the information.
This is probably one of the most useful additions from Google in recent times. Understanding the amount of impressions your site receives from natural search is something webmasters have been keen to understand for years and it is surprising that only now we have something to go by.
On looking at the numbers Google give for the impressions they do seem to be only ball park figures and so we perhaps still do not have absolute numbers. Nonetheless this is still extremely useful as we can now gain a much better understanding on the differences in CTR in the different ranking positions.
Together with Analytics this feature can give us a more thorough understanding on which queries work best for your site. This then gives us license to test changes that can help improve CTR for queries that might be low much like with PPC.
