Twitter Announce @Anywhere Platform

Twitter announced on Monday that it is releasing a new platform that will make it a lot easier for websites to integrate Twitter features.

Called @anywhere the full details on what this platform will offer have been rather cryptic however what has been said is that a user can simply drop in a few lines of JavaScript to incorporate it which is a much simpler than current hassle of implementing Twitter’s API services.

Although Twitter have yet to release anymore information than that the new platform does sound like a useful innovation and Twitter points out that it allows users to engage with brands on their site instead of sending them to Twitter.com. They give the example of “being able to follow a New York Times journalist directly from her byline, tweet about a video without leaving YouTube, and discover new Twitter accounts while visiting the Yahoo! home page” to highlight its potential.

Twitter have announced that participating sites on launch will include Amazon, AdAge, Bing, Citysearch, Digg, eBay, The Huffington Post, Meebo, MSNBC.com, The New York Times, Salesforce.com, Yahoo!, and YouTube.

Twitter have stated on the 16th that they will be announcing more details about @anywhere at @Chirp in April.

In theory, this sounds great - a few lines of javascript would be something that anybody and everybody could integrate with very little hassle, and it would certainly make a nice change to the current difficult method. Will it be released to all straight away? Or just to the sites listed as a trial to begin with?
