Twitter has improved the relevancy of its trending topics by adding a new feature that allows you to see local trends. The new feature currently allows you to select geographic regions which include a handful of countries including the UK and Ireland and some major cities including London. Twitter states that they are “working on” increasing the locations on offer so eventually we will get a much more comprehensive list.
To use the feature you have to select the location in which you would like to see trending data for which is situated below the lists section on your Twitter homepage. This is perhaps a slightly restricting way of doing things as it would be better for Twitter to automatically select a location for you; this is especially the case for people who travel up and down the country a lot. However we can’t have it all too soon and to give credit to Twitter they have allowed for this feature through its use on mobile apps.
This is no doubt a good addition from Twitter and I’m looking forward to seeing what people are tweeting about once Leeds becomes available…
