So finally Bing has come out of Beta and is fully available to us in the UK. This now means we can finally begin to optimise for local search and with it look at local business listings. From reading a post from Greg Sterling at Search Engine Land over the weekend UK business listings have been listed differently form that in the US using Multi-Map, a company acquired by Microsoft. Well Bing has now updated its maps for the UK also.
The new interface/design does look really good with its clean polished design making it easier to read. On top of this it does offer a few decent touches such as London Tube Maps, Walking Directions and even details of the London Congestion Charge which are all pretty handy additions.
It seems at the moment that you still have to submit your site to Market Location in order to get your business listed. From here you can either edit/update current listings or create a new one. I have been reading around and not found any information on whether or when the local business listing service that is available in the US will be available in the UK. However for now this is your best bet and getting listing in Microsoft if you haven’t already.
