As both Google and Bing took massive steps forward in the integration of real time search with Google’s integration of Twitter and Bing’s partnership with both Facebook and Twitter, it has been a bit quiet from another of the major search engines – Yahoo.
Since the establishment of Bing and the takeover from Microsoft it has created an almost air of uncertainty around Yahoo and what the plan is for the future leading some to question whether it will stay in the search market much longer.
However an indication that Yahoo is not quite out of it yet comes form the fact that they too are getting in on the real time search act. According to Tech Crunch apparently Yahoo is going to team up with the real time search engine OneRiot which will allow users to find relevant news, videos and blogs from social networking sites.
Not much more information is available about this yet but Yahoo! Told TechCrunch that ‘real-time search is important and we’re currently conducting several tests designed to discover if showing such content is useful to people using Yahoo! Search’…
I think that the decision to partner with OneRiot will pay off as it is already a pretty good real time search engine bringing together results from various social platforms. The problem for OneRiot has been their lack of exposure which might have allowed it to stand out as a real time search engine in its own right. With Yahoo however all the ingredients are there in terms of Yahoo’s index and algorithm and OneRiots real time algorithm to suggest that this could be a real success.
This is yet more groundbreaking news in search industry and seems that the battle is fully on to see who will be the top dogs of real-time search, and for the first time in years it is not a given that the winner will be Google.
