Things were looking rosey for Bing over the summer. Since it’s introduction back in May 2009 Bing’s market share saw a steady increase month on month and with it a rise in people’s normally pessimistic expectations of a competitor to Google. However recent stats from September has have shown that it’s market share has already taken a dent.
According to an article on Revolution Magazine Bing’s global market share of search queries fell from 3.58% to 3.25% in September which makes for worrying reading for Microsoft.
More interesting is that the stats – found by StatCounter - also found that Yahoo have also suffered a drop from 4.84% down to 4.37%. Even more worrying for Microsoft would be that Google have seen a rise with a global share of whopping 90.54% which is a 0.54% increase.
Of course this no cause for panic for Microsoft as it is still early days and like in any market you will unavoidably experience fluctuating results to some degree from time to time. However like has been highlighted many times before it really does highlight the mammoth task Microsoft have in front of them and also just how dominant Google are…

Maybe the recent Google Wave launch has put Google back in the spotlight and therefore enabled them to steal some users back from Microsoft and Yahoo?
