Google Release Search with My Location for iPhone 3.0

Google have come up with a stroke of genius with their latest addition to the ever growing mobile industry. They have introduced a feature called Search with My Location which allows you to search for certain establishments (Google use a jazz club as an example) and it will display a list of establishments for your query that are in and around the area you are currently in.

My Location has been released as of today and is for use only on the new iPhone 3.0. All the user has to do is visit Google.com and turn on MyLocation by tapping the link on the page. If you have moved around and now find yourself somewhere different you simply tap the update link and then you new location is retrieved.

This is a great feature for people who find themselves in strange neighborhoods where they have no familiarity of their surroundings or as Google put it have a bad ‘memory for places’. It’s also a great time saver so instead of having to scan loads of pages until you find what you are looking for or having to type your location into Google you can simply type what you are looking for.

It will come of no shock that privacy may be a concern however Google do recognise this and stresses that people can turn this feature off if you wish. So this should avoid any outcry like we saw when Google released Street View.

I must say once again Google have really given thought to a problem in which many of us have and one which many no doubt will have. I just hope that this is made available on other platforms in the near future.
