Twitter Gets the Royal Tweetment

Big news if you are into the Royal Family or just simply news if you are not but the Royal Family is now on Twitter. The account @BritishMonarchy is now live however a spokesperson stated that the account will not be used for personal Tweets but rather act as a source of news snippets about the Royal Family. So unfortunately we won’t be hearing about what the Queen had for breakfast or controversial ramblings from Prince Philip.

I think it is quite refreshing that the Royal Family are putting a lot of interest into social media. The Twitter account comes off the back of a YouTube channel launched in 2007 which displays videos including the Queen’s Christmas speech. I do however think it is a shame that they won’t be taking the personal Tweeting route like that of Barack Obama, however the feasibility of this ever being able to happen probably questionable. It is nice to see nonetheless that the Royal Family are putting in effort to relate to younger generations and ‘get with the times’.
