Google are planning on taking a huge leap into online dominance with its planned release of its first operating system Google Chrome OS.
Google say that Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks and will be made available in the second half of 2010. Following on from Google’s crusade to get everyone up and running on the web and to find information as quickly as possible Google state that “speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS” and that they are “designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds.”

This is an important and historical move from Google and one that we all know has been on the cards for some time. I was having a discussion the other day about the fact that Microsoft will be able to achieve quite a bit of dominance in the search engine market through bundling Bing with IE in its Windows operating system. It appears now that Google can do exactly the same and we could begin to see Google Chrome take a massive market share and with it Google maintain its superiority in the search market. This will surely be seen as a blow to Microsoft’s efforts to push Bing.
With the Google Android and now the Chrome OS operating system any thoughts of Google being dethroned by any other search engine seems unfeasible. Only time will tell whether Chrome OS takes the online market by storm but I can honestly say that I am anticipating this release more than Microsoft’s imminent Windows 7.
