The Week In Search - 26/06/09 Recap

Okay so we reach the end of the week and once more we have a recap of the things we have been reading on the net this week.

Habitat UK Twitter Gaffe

The best way to start our recap. We first caught wind of the problem on Sky News after seeing people tweeting about their outrage. This is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of a what not to do in social media marketing as we posted earlier in the week.

Stats

We have come across some interesting stats this week in particular Hitwise’s list of Top Retial sites and the Top ten Retail search terms.

SEO

Some of the posts we have been reading this week in the world of SEO have been:

SEO Best Practices: SEOmoz’s New Policies Based on Updated Correlation Data – Fantastic post for brushing up on SEO and picking up a few new tips (let’s face it we always need them)

Wordtracker Firefox Plugin - SEO Blogger Useful plugin for Firefox that allows you to carry out keyword research whilst you are writing your blog post

Google’s Matt Cutts On “Over Optimization” - Great video from Matt Cutts on over optmisation well worth a watch

Search Trends

We posted something about this earlier today and it was inspired by a post during the week from TechCrunch

When It Comes To Search Trends, Google Is Lagging Behind Bing

http://google.com/trends/hottrends?date=2009-6-25&sa=X Interesting to see how Google trends has changed over the last 24 hours

General Search

This post didn’t really fit into a category so I put in under general search. This is well worth a read and is something we posted about during the week.

FTC plans to monitor blogs for claims, payments -  We wrote a post on this but this is big news and is something we should def keep an eye on.

Social Media

How Twitter Might Send Far More Traffic Than You Think - This was something that interested us for sometime- why bit.ly was telling us one thing about our traffic and Google Analytics was telling us another.

More Ways to Share in the Publisher – We posted about this but this is from the official Faebook blog talking about the new sharing options on Facebook

Posting to the Stream in Real Time with the Live Stream Box – Another subject we touched on about Facebook revamping for Real Time

Twitter SEO - The Slow Death of Twitter Hash Tags – Hashtags have made favourable news for the past couple of weeks but this post from Search Engine Journal takes a more pessimistic view.

Paid Search

Bing Brings More Conversions at Lower Costs – The title speaks for itself, quite an interesting read.

Announcing the AdSense for Mobile Applications beta – Another subject we covered and shows how smart phones are moving forward.

For Fun

Woolworths rise again. Woolworths have released a site whereby you can buy pick ‘n’ mix. It’s a novel idea and gives as a blast from the (not so long ago) past!

Pick N Mix

Lastly following on from the Google suggest function it is interesting that Google is yet to recognise Bing. Maybe it is too early however it gains 135,000 searches a month according to Google Keyword Tool which is surely high enough to warrant a suggest? Maybe Google are being petty :-)

Enjoy!
