Google are to launch a website that emphasises the importance of speed on the Web. The move comes as part of Google’s ongoing effort to speed up the Web and ‘make browsing the web as fast as turning the pages of a magazine’ as they put it. The site will contain tutorials and advice on ways in which webmasters can improve the loading times of their sites.
Google also want to use this to address the need for governments around the word to improve access to broadband internet.
I think this is a good move from Google and it is about time webmasters really think about the loading times of their sites as it never ceases to amaze me that that this is still an aspect that needs emphasising. Also with all this hype about Bing of late I would like to praise Google on doing something positive.
You can read more about this on Google’s official blog. The site is apparently going live on Tuesday so we should be able to check it by then.

I suppose it’s like most things really, the more something increases (in this case broadband speeds) the more people leverage on it. This gives the overall impression that things are getting faster, but i suppose it’s all relative.
If special effort was made for web designers to streamline the loading speeds of the their sites, then we could achieve a super fast information highway.
But that means compromise for the coming revolution of rich media.
