So we have to get used to yet another of Microsoft’s Search Engines. To be frank I have very seldom used a search engine from Microsoft purely for the fact that I find (like with millions of others) that Google is better and due to this any search engine that has entered the market I have more often than barely batted an eyelid. However with Microsoft’s new stab at gaining some of that elusive slice of the search engine pie I have a hunch that Bing could be different. Don’t get me wrong I am pretty sure that we are not seeing the demise of Google because in all honesty I very much doubt this will happen at least any time soon, but for once I am sensing that Microsoft could be on to something especially given the current search engine landscape.
Firstly I would say people’s growing concern at a Google monopoly will play a huge part in how successful Bing becomes. People will and are out to get Google and try and knock it off its pedestal and so Bing could be a very welcome change and could be the catalyst to finally put Google to the sword so to speak.
Secondly: Yahoo! Bing has already allegedly overtaken Yahoo in users and to make it more interesting it has been at the expense of Google. I say allegedly as some reports suggest this has been greatly exaggerated however it is still interesting nonetheless and something to take note of. On top of this the fact there is mounting confusion in what direction Yahoo is going this could see Bing become the second search engine.
So where do we go from here? At the moment it is very difficult to say. Naturally we should be taking Bing seriously and any SEO would be naïve not to however it is easy to put any spike in Bing users down to hype. With Google recently adding Bing to Analytics as a search engine this opens up our chance to explore for ourselves how much Bing is being used. All we can do for the moment is sit tight and keep monitoring Bing’s progress…

Interesting stuff. It seems to early in the day to be writing off Google though. And whilst there may be people concerned about its share, consumers/users are voting with their search patterns. Google has a huge share for a reason. You’d expect Bing to make some inroads over time. But is it good enough to take a serious slice of the search pie? One to watch…
