IndexTools Rebranded as Yahoo Web Analytics

Yahoo! has announced the deployment of Yahoo! Web Analytics following the acquisition of IndexTools in April. The tool is already available to advertisers and third-party application developers, with Yahoo! Small Business customers set to be able to use the tools by Christmas. The roll out will continue into next year.

The Web Analytics system will be used to provide real time data and graphs to clients regarding traffic sources, page views and sales in order to analyse customer activity on their website. The site will allow for the creation of custom reports in order to identify trends and paths a customer may take through your website. By understanding this data, web owners will be able to fine tune their websites to enhance customer experience and ultimately increase ROI through increased knowledge of customer activity.

Yahoo! are promoting the flexibility of the system through features such as data filters and report wizards; implemented in order to allow users to gather data specific to any query they are looking to solve regarding their site. The real time reporting is a major asset to the tool, allowing instant monitoring of actions occurring on their site.

The emergence of Yahoo! Web Analytics should really shake up the free analytics market, as IndexTools was a great solution and easily on a par with Urchin (which Google bought and eventually rebranded as the free Google Analytics). It will be interesting to see what kind of market share Yahoo can take from Google and the promise of real time data is a tempting selling point.
