Research Highlights Relative Merits of Different Search Engines

The latest research commissioned by Microsoft and carried out by Nielsen NetRatings suggests there is a lot more to the ‘which engine’ decision than ad formats and CPCs.

The study (pdf) shows a significant difference in consumer attitudes to the different search engines which, crucially, can be leveraged to a marketers advantage. (more…)

Should You Use Static URLs or Dynamic URLs for SEO?

Google have issued new information on their ability to index dynamic URLs, with some surprising recommendations that could impact on SEO. Interestingly, they state that they can index any dynamic URL and generally recommend against rewriting URLs. (more…)

First Mobile Phone Using Google Android Set to Launch

The first Google Android powered mobile device is set to be launched today; the first major plunge taken by Google into mobile technology. The G1, manufactured by Taiwanese HTC, will run on the Android operating system and is set to significantly increase the capabilities and usability of mobile devices. (more…)

New Hitwise Search Tool Provides Insights on Traffic Sources By Industry

Hitwise have further expanded the capabilities of their search intelligence tool to provide marketers with an even greater insight into search market trends.

Whilst there is a wealth of information available out there on marketing spend by industry, Hitwise now gives us the capability to see each industry’s reliance on paid search. Enhancements to the tool now allow us to report on what % of each industry’s search traffic comes from paid search. Whilst in many cases this supports trends many were already aware of, as ever it is hugely valuable to be able to see this as actual solid data. (more…)

Strong Growth Expected in Online Shopping this Christmas

Summer seems to have come and gone without so much as a whimper, and the nights are drawing in once more. The well publicised credit crunch is set to have a profound effect upon many Christmas shoppers in the coming months. Very few firms are immune to the trouble; just ask the staff from worldwide banking giant Lehman Brothers, or one of the 90,000 tourists stranded by XL Airways.

However, recent research has shown that shoppers are set to use the Internet to their full advantage in the coming months to maximise their already stretched budgets. Google Dominates Online Video in the UK

Data released from comScore, a US based web analytics company, shows that Google owned websites are dominating the online video arena.

Figures show that 27.4 million UK users viewed 3.2 billion videos in the month of June 2008 alone, a share of 49.3%. BBC owned websites had the second most views, highlighting Google’s dominance with just 1.4% share. Microsoft sites were third with 0.8%, Fox Interactive Media fourth with 0.7% and ITV fifth with 0.6%.
